Crying & Sleeping

While I’ve skipped over all of the fun stuff about going to the hospital and the whole birth and post delivery activities, no worries- I will get to it soon.

This post is about current events. It has officially been a week and a day since the birth of Caleb. There have been major ups and downs.

The downs being highlighted by the night Caleb woke up at 1245 and didn’t stop crying until after the sunrise. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep until I had time to take a nap around 3:00pm the next afternoon.

The highs capped off by Caleb being very healthy and already close to birth weight.

In between are events such as my wife having a spinal migraine from the epidural, enlightening conversations with our amazing lactation consultant, and family and friends coming over to help in any way they can. It’s amazing how having just another set of hands to hold the baby can be such a huge help.

We’ve since learned that the crying is because he’s hungry and now feed him what seems like constantly. At first he would be so lazy while breast feeding (falling asleep, just sucking-no eating), but my wife figured it out and now Caleb eats just fine – better than me for that matter!

I’m sure this all just a phase and we’ll get past the incessant crying, but for now it’s tough. Somehow though, I just don’t get irritated with him, just in the fact that my wife can’t get a good night’s sleep.

What are your first week home stories and how did you solve them?
