All Nighter

We’ve reached the milestone!

I waited to post about it in case it was a fluke, but our son officially sleeps through the night!

It started last Friday, when we put him down at the normal time of around 8:00pm.  My wife and I went to bed around 10:30-11:00pm.  I woke up at 5:30am when our son was crying.  I didn’t believe my clock!  I do remember waking up and thinking, “it has to be at least 3:30,” and it was.

Later that day, I told my wife, “I bet tonight’s going to be rough!”  I figured it was a fluke that he slept straight through the night and that the next night would be a ‘get up every two hours’ kind of night.  We both prepared for it, and thankfully it was a Saturday.  That night, he slept from 8:00pm to 4:30am.

The following night, he slept from 8:00pm to 3:30am.  You’re heading in the wrong direction buddy!!!

Since then, this whole week, our son has typically slept from around 8:00pm to about 2:30-3:30am, where we both get up, I change his diaper and my wife will nurse.  He then sleeps until between 6:00-7:00am.

I can’t tell you how much easier it is to go through a day after either sleeping through the night or only getting up once.  It has been a complete game changer.  What happened to bring this on?  Well, it’s most likely due to the fact that he’s a porker – weighing it at 13.5 lbs at only 9 weeks (75 percentile), but we’ve figured some other things out as well:

  1. He schedule is down pat – eating every 2-3 hours
  2. He eats around 7:00pm, then gets a nice warm bath around 7:30pm where I read to him while my wife bathes him
  3. We wrap him up tight in the swaddle/sleep sack and get him upstairs to be calmed

It seems to be working for now.  Either way, my wife and I are a lot less sleep-deprived and we’re all better off for it.  Thanks buddy!

When did you baby sleep through the night first and what was it like?
